Murcia brings together a fine tradition as a university city with a business dynamism that rightly belongs to the Spanish region which has seen most growth over the last decade. A city which offers an expanding business environment and the services and advantages of a manageable city. Murcia has an ideal location for tourism and leisure close to the Mediterranean coast and the main cultural centres and monuments in the south-east of Spain.
Murcia has a population of more than 500,000 inhabitants and is one of Spain’s 7 most important cities. Over the last few years, Murcia has undergone an especially important economic and social transformation due to the internationalisation of Murcian companies and the increasing importance of tourism. Thanks to its location in the south-east of Spain, it has a Mediterranean climate with very acceptable temperatures in the winter and a warm summer. Murcia's enviable climate has turned it into one of the most desired residential areas among European citizens.
What’s more, the Region of Murcia is perfectly connected to the rest of Spain thanks to an extensive transport network. The road and rail network allow for good connections with Spain’s other cities and, at the same time, allow quick and fluid connections to Europe with regular flights to London, Paris, Berlin or Brussels.
Murcia is especially well-known and valued for its quality of life which, together with its current economic expansion, has made our city and its surroundings an attractive population and economic centre both in Spain and in Europe.
How to get to Murcia
The closest airports to the city are Alicante (El Altet) and Murcia-San Javier; a third airport, Murcia-Corvera, will soon open. There are regular and frequent connections from Madrid and Barcelona to these airports.
- Transatlantic flights usually land at Madrid when flying to Spain.
- There are direct flights from many European capitals to Murcia.
- There are several companies who fly the Madrid-Murcia route (Iberia, Spanair, etc). We would like to point out to our international students that the only airline that operates national flights out of Madrid Barajas’ Terminal 4 is Iberia – this is relevant given the time it takes to change flights between terminals is greater than the time taken to reach a connecting flight in the same terminal. For more information, please visit the following web page: http://www.esmadrid.com/monograficos/transporte/es/llegar_avion.html
- The flight from Madrid to Alicante of Murcia-San Javier takes 45 minutes and it is not normally necessary to change flights in Madrid Barajas’ termianl 4.
- Alicante airport (El Altet) is about 45 minutes by car from the city of Murcia.
- San Javier airport, although it receives fewer flights, is 42 km from the city. About 30 minutes away by car.
- A taxi to Murcia will cost around 65€ from Alicante airport and around 50€ from San Javier airport.
- Bus Service from Alicante Airport to Murcia The tickets can be bought directly from the driver. A single ticket costs 16.00€ and a return ticket 24.00€.
- There is also a bus service from San Javier airport to Murcia city which costs around 5.00€ although the buses are less frequent.
